Welcome to the website of Garry R Fenton Aviation Art Profiles, presenting the artwork profiles of the Avro Lancaster. With a meticulous attention to detail, each piece of work captures the unique details and aircraft features. Work includes PA474 (BBMF), FM213 (CWHM), NX611 (LAHC) Operation Chastise – Special Editions – Lancaster UK Tour of 2014. My portfolio features artwork of Halifax NA 337 & Lancaster KB882 which were produced for the National Air Force Museum of Canada.
I began drawing the Avro Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in 1994. At this time PA474 was wearing the codes of ‘WS-J’ of number 9 Squadron. I had an edition one of the several aviation magazines in my desk at work and at a lunch time I tried to draw PA474 using Paintbrush. Since that first initial image which had the wrong proportions, no detail let alone any form of shape and texture, the journey began in producing a highly accurate profile of PA474 to match the actual Lancaster.
Above - Just some of the many actual drawings charting the development the Lancaster profile, with notes of the required changes.
Below - The various changes applied to the image between 2015-2017
To compliment the Avro Lancaster I am currently developing profiles of the fighters of the BBMF. To produce this new work (above - early planning image of the Hurricane) for this I am going to be using Affinity Designer.
Below - The new work which is in development will display the three ship formation of the Spitfire Lancaster & Hurricane. More details will be posted on the Facebook page.
I own several books on the Avro Lancaster including some which now feature my own artwork profiles, I am also a member of Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association and since 2013 a member of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Official Club.
