About Garry

My interest for all things aircraft and aviation began from a young age, I would go running to the window at the sound of an aircraft flying overhead. There was and still is today one film was my favourite and that was obviously one that featured the Avro Lancaster and there is only one and that is the nineteen fifty five classic "The Dam Busters". I have watched this film so many times now, this was what started my interest and fascination with the Avro Lancaster.

Later in the early 80’s I started making e plastic kits of aircraft (which did include a Lancaster) Although they ended up with a bit too much glue applied which always managed to find its way to the glazed canopy.

It was just before I started going to Airshows in 1994, where I created my first profile (here I will call it an attempt at a Lancaster profile) which was drawn out of lots of tiny squares as a Bitmap (BMP) I still this image today. I never stopped drawing the Lancaster making multiple changes and over the several years, the profile has kept evolving.

By the late 90’s I started to go to Airshows, I started with The Fighter Meet, which was held at North Weald and later started going to the yearly Flying Legends Airshows at Duxford. There is always one that was special and that was the Avro Lancaster, but in 2014 an unforgettable moment was during the UK Tour of The Canadian Warplane Heritage Lancaster. when an exceptionally large crowd and I saw the majestic sight and evocative sound of two Lancaster's flying.

I have been a member of Lincolnshire's Lancaster Association (LLA) since 1988, over the last thirty years or so I have collected a diverse collection of magazines which have proved highly invaluable in assisting me in creating and learning about the history of Avro Lancaster B.1 PA474 of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
